Abstract

This paper builds on a presentation delivered at the VPL Biennale 2024 by the authorsentitled “VPL on Trial” (Ravet & Presant, 2024). Its purpose is to provide a critical analysis of current recognition policies and practices, arguing that their focus on formal qualifications overlooks the rich tapestry created by the interplay of formal, non-formal, and informal recognition. 

The article concludes by questioning how to overcome the limitations of current recognition frameworks to achieve 100% recognition of a population. It advocates moving attention from "recognition of learning" to "recognition of practice," emphasizing the potential of fostering trust-based networks of recognition.
